Mornington Community Christmas Lunch

The Mornington Community Christmas Lunch has been running for 22 years and Functioning Together has organised the event on behalf of the Mornington Community Information and Support Centre (MCISC) for the last 9 years on a voluntary basis.

Event Type

Not for profit community event

Location

The Studio @ PCT, Mornington

Goals

  • Provide lunch for local residents in Mornington, Mt Martha, Moorooduc, and Mt Eliza who would otherwise be on their own on Christmas Day
  • Source sufficient sponsorship and donations to cover the costs of the lunch

The Lunch includes a traditional meal of roast meats and vegetables, followed by Christmas Pudding and custard.  Guests finish with a gourmet platter of cheese, chocolates, and other tasty treats, and when they depart they each select a gift and a goodies bag with a hand made card made by Mount Martha Primary School students.

Functioning Together made all the arrangements for the Lunch, including booking the venue, sourcing sponsorship, budget management, contacting local businesses and organisations to source donations, coordinating 40 volunteers, preparing all the marketing material, organising the purchase of gifts for the guests, hiring equipment, organising the bookings, and arranging collection of donations. After Christmas certificates of appreciation are created for all sponsors, donors, and volunteers, and distributed to them.

The Lunch was an outstanding success and MCISC were very appreciative of the support provided.

‘We are so grateful for Paula’s support of our organisation and for her commitment to helping those in our community that are vulnerable and less fortunate than most. She is always coming up new ideas about how we can better serve our local community.’
Stuart Davis-Meehan, Manager, Mornington Community Information and Support Centre
